From Tuesday, 13 July 2021, anyone entering an indoor common area of Greater Sydney residential buildings must be wearing a face mask.
The new rules, while announced last week, kick in after New South Wales recorded 112 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday, 11 July 2021.
The rules apply across indoor areas of common property in residential buildings that are strata titled, community titled or company titled.
These areas include a shared foyer or lobby of an apartment block, lifts, stairwells, corridors and in shared laundry facilities.
The New South Wales government has emphasised that the rules mean masks must be worn by residents and visitors, building managers, concierge staff and cleaners, people providing goods and services — including tradespeople and contractors as well as people delivering food, mail and parcels.
As a result, agents and property managers are caught by the new restrictions.
Residents do not need to wear masks inside their own apartments.
Despite the tightening restrictions, agents and property managers are still able to conduct inspections for properties by private appointment, for one person at a time.
“If you are a real estate agent or a prospective purchaser and you live in, usually work in, or usually attend a university or other tertiary education facility in Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour, you must follow the stay-at-home rules,” the NSW government previously said.
